Art 1 Final Exam

When working on your art in this course you had a range of choices in each project.  This was the first year Apex’s art department used the “Open Art Room.” Do you feel that this range and choice encouraged you to grow as an artist? Please explain how it did, if not, explain how it in.
I believe the range given to me did help me grow as an artist. I think more room you're given helps you come up with more original and unique ideas. With our two in one project we were given a very wide spectrum on what we could combine. I combined peace and war by using symbolism, which was more liberal thinking thanks to open range that was set. I don't think my project would"ve turned out so well if I hadn't thought outside the box.

What did you find most difficult about this class? This could be anything from gathering materials, to generating projects ideas, to applying a particular technique. What could be done to resolve this issue in the future?
The most difficult thing about this class was probably finding inspiration for my projects. Sometimes I would have to settle for ideas I didn't think could reach my full creative potential. For example in my project Land Art I was pushed for time and was forced to make bland, unoriginal project. We just make leaves into trees and I did not feel like I was really doing the theme its justice. If given more time I probably could have come up with a more creative and interesting project.

Choose 1 piece of art that you used skills and techniques learned from previous projects.  Discuss your growth as an artist and how you incorporated these skills and techniques to create the piece.
One piece of art that helped shaped a later one was the print screening project. It was a very difficult project for me, but it helped make my sculpture project better in the long run. I did a lot of carving and shaping in screen printing and sculpture. That helped me become better with those skills. If I hadn't done screen printing then I don't think I would've done as well on my sculpture project.

Choose a place or artwork where the subject matter reflects you as an artist.  One that you have a personal connection to.  Please explain.
I relate most to my sculpture project because the theme was carpe diem. Carpe diem means to seize the day and I find very meaningful, and inspiring. I never gave it much thought unless I saw the movie Dead Poets Society, one of my favorite moves. And since then its really inspired me to seize the day. This piece reflects me as an artist the most. I also really liked the way it turned out too.
